You will learn to fly a wing, starting with ground training and basic flying skills to Elementary Pilot level. After this you can progress to Club (Novice) Pilot training and extend your skills so that you are able to fly out of range of an instructor.
If you already fly paragliders off the hill why not gain a tow endorsement? There are plenty of opportunities to fly XC once you have been towed to 1500ft…. and there no hills to keep climbing! We welcome experienced paragliders to join us when we are on the field, just call to check the evening before.
Adults will be expected to have reached “self release” at the end of the 1st weekend of training. This means being able to fly a round canopy behind the landrover in a straight line, releasing the tow line at around 500 feet and safely landing on your own. Although this is weather dependant, the majority of our adult fliers in 2005 achieved this.
Due to Sky Lincs being part of the Scout Association, and all training is done by qualified trainers on a voluntary basis, the costs are kept as low as possible.
Everyone who flies with us regularly must be an Associate member of the Scout Association and have a CRB check as we do have young people on the airfield.
It is possible to be a day member of BHPA for introductory training but everyone MUST join BHPA (British Hang-gliding and Paragliding Association) see www.bhpa.co.uk for details.
Being a non commercial venture, it is our aim to get as many people flying as possible for the least cost. Please enquire on costs to Ann Underwood (Chief Flying Instructor)
The training programme consists of a series of easy steps, which enables students to progress at their own pace.
All participants first receive ground training that includes Parachute Landing Falls, and an introduction to the equipment. Launch, collapse and field packing the canopy are also covered.
The student is then initiated into the sport, usually on a ‘round' canopy with a series of low-level flights up to 60 metres (200 feet) which are controlled by the Tow Unit Driver. The driver ensures that the student is given a gentle introduction to the sensation of towed canopy flight and is then brought lightly to ground, still attached to the towline.
Further launches, eventually leading to the student's first 'Self-Release', are then possible. Even higher ascents will enable an experienced Parascender to execute turns, manoeuvres and target approaches after release.
Later training can continue with conversion to the ‘Ram-Air’ (square) canopy type. Training is also available on higher performance Paragliders which are launched by winch.
Adults learn to fly a wing, starting as a beginner with ground training and basic flying skills to Elementary Pilot level. After this you can progress to Club (Novice) Pilot training and extend your skills so that you are able to fly out of range of an instructor but still in a club situation.
If you have any questions please contact us before the day.
